Today’s Gratitude Item: That all the students who ended up with detention from yesterday (long story) turned up to do it. Needless to say, in class today their behaviour was much improved. We did not waste the time in detention either – rather than making them write lines or do something meaningless, I found an article on a new anti-bacterial paint that is being developed and wrote some questions on it. They then got to read the article and answer the questions. I’ve never seen these kids quite so motivated to get a task done. The article was relevant as we are currently studying microbes so the issue of antibiotics / resistance is something that they need to know about.
