Today’s Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out how to add sound to presentations made using Open Office’s “Impress” application. The nice thing about OOS is that it’s free and incredibly powerful. Some of my students don’t have working versions of PowerPoint and there is no reason for them to buy it when Impress works just as well. The only tricky thing was figuring out that to get sound to work, you have to convert the file from a .wav file to an .mp3 format. Sadly the documentation for Open Office was less than helpful in this regard. On the bright side, Open Office is open source and I’m sure there is a wiki out there just waiting for a ‘sound’ update.
