Today there were protests in Auckland against Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza. The situation there is a tragedy. It is a great pity that the protesters appear to be missing the point – the ground invasion is a direct result of Hamas firing rockets into Israel.

Are these people unaware of the ‘terror tunnels’ that have been built Hamas?
Do they not realise that Hamas use homes, schools mosques and hospitals to store rockets, rocket launchers and anti-tank missiles?
Are they oblivious to the fact that Hamas tell the civilians in Gaza not to abandon their homes when Israelis warn them that they are planning an attack?

I’m wondering why the protesters, who are so vocal in their opposition to Israel are silent when it comes to the actions of Hamas? Where were these protesters during the Syrian crisis? How is it that they only come out when Israel is under attack?
