Today’s Gratitude Item: Finally getting to see a Brown Teal. This is an endangered duck that is found only on offshore islands like Tiritiri Matangi. I’ve been to Tiri three times before and mentioned to one of the volunteers on the ferry over that my goal was to see said duck. She organised an excursion which was slightly off the beaten track to allow this to happen. Most visitors don’t get to see that part of the Island so it was really special. My one student has to do an assessment on this particular bird (each student got a different species), so she got to come and see it too with a few of her friends.
